What Exactly Is a Dental Veneer?

Dental veneers are thin shells of medical-grade porcelain that are carefully crafted to fit onto the front of your teeth. Each one is custom-designed to enhance your smile and camouflage distracting imperfections.

The porcelain itself beautifully mimics the natural light-reflecting properties of tooth enamel for a realistic effect.

Porcelain veneers are also durable and, with proper care, can last for more than a decade, while giving you a realistic smile that looks like your natural teeth.

Veneers Treatment Timeline

Our dentists have the advanced training and artistic eye you are looking for in cosmetic dentistry.

One of our dentists will assess your teeth to determine if dental veneers will help you achieve your goal of a beautiful smile or if another procedure would be more appropriate.

Preparing Your Teeth

If veneers are deemed the right solution for your goals, the next step is to prep the teeth that will be treated. This requires removing a thin layer of enamel from each tooth that will receive a veneer. This is done so the veneers lie flush with the untreated teeth.

Taking Impressions

Our dentist will scan your teeth with our sophisticated digital iTero scanner to create a precise 3-D image of your smile. This advanced technology allows us to design custom veneers precisely fitted to your teeth. We'll send the information to our local lab, where it will take about two weeks to create the color-matched veneers.

Temporary Veneers

Our dentist will place temporary veneers for you to wear while your porcelain veneers are fabricated.

Placing the Finished Veneers

You'll return to our convenient Washington, DC, practice to have your permanent veneers placed. After removing your temporary veneers, the dentist will verify the fit of the permanent ones, making any minor adjustments as needed. When you and the dentist are pleased with the results, the veneers will be securely cemented in place.
