Minor misalignment can put a damper on your smile, but traditional braces are unattractive and can cause feelings of embarrassment.

Fortunately, Invisalign® is a virtually unnoticeable orthodontic treatment that can straighten your teeth in months.

See how RUSK, THORNTON DENTAL ASSOCIATES, P.C. in Washington, DC, can give you the dazzling smile you desire.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment involves a series of clear aligners that are custom-fitted to your teeth to slowly move them into their ideal position over the course of 12 to 18 months.

These aligners can straighten minor misalignment concerns. If you have severe misalignment, you may be a better candidate for another orthodontic option, like traditional braces.

Exploring Candidacy for Invisalign

Children and Adults

Children and adults alike can be candidates for orthodontics, and Invisalign is no different. Though many adults love the advantages of clear aligners as a discreet treatment, children as young as the age of seven can benefit from treatment and set themselves up for a straight and healthy smile for life.

Good Oral Health

Before you receive any kind of orthodontic treatment, it's important for your mouth to be healthy. Follow an at-home oral care routine that consists of brushing, flossing, and using an oral rinse, visit the dentist for regular exams and cleanings, and receive any necessary preparatory treatments so your mouth is healthy enough for orthodontics.

To be a good candidate for Invisalign, candidates must be willing to wear their aligners for at least 22 hours each day. Though Invisalign can be taken out quickly and easily, removing the aligners for long periods of time can extend your treatment timeline and even result in your teeth reverting back to their misaligned position.

Choosing a Dentist to Create Your Aligners

Though you may think an orthodontist would be best equipped to create your aligners, the dentists at RUSK, THORNTON DENTAL ASSOCIATES, P.C. have undergone special training and are able to provide patients with the same techniques and level of care. This means our dentists are able to create your clear aligners and complete your treatment, without the need of an orthodontist.

Initial Consultation

To receive Invisalign, you must first request a consultation with an Invisalign provider to discuss your concerns and goals. Our Washington DC office is proud to offer this service.

Take Impressions

Our dentists will take impressions of your teeth to map out the best way to move them into their ideal position.

Create Aligners

Your impressions will be sent to a lab where your aligners will be created. Once your first set of aligners is complete, you can start wearing them immediately.

Continue Treatment

Over the course of several months, you will continue to receive new aligners at our DC office to gradually reposition your teeth.

Retain Your Results

Once you've completed treatment, you can wear a retainer or your final set of aligners to hold your teeth in their new aligned position while the bone heals around them.

How Our iTero Scanner Can
Improve Your Invisalign Experience

Our iTero® intraoral scanner is able to take 3D images of your teeth, so you can visualize your Invisalign treatment every step of the way. Our iTero scanner can also help us create your aligners without the need for messy impressions. Many patients prefer this method because it's quick and comfortable.
